Farbenspiel a colourplay through time & genres
Info
As the first German Solo CD for Tenor Horn the main idea of the album is to present primarily newly arranged and lesser-known pieces. The CD thereby intended to show the versatility and possibilities of the Tenor horn by recording pieces from the great musical epochs as well as new compositions and thus showing the range of producible timbres.
Pieces
The album will be featuring 8 pieces, 2 according to each type of accompaniment: with piano, with string ensemble and harpsichord, with Brass Band and solo/unaccompanied. All of them represent different colours of sound and moods. To illutrate this, I chose 8 pictures, one for each piece.
This combination of pieces is a unique feature which has never been done before on the Tenor Horn. In my opinion this offers up new possibilities and a rare listening experience. Additionally, one of my goals was to commission new pieces that are also exciting and fun to play for everyone.
Brass Band (Tredegar Town Band)
2nd Horn Concerto in Eb major R. Strauss, arr. Anabel Voigt
The first major work of the CD will be this jewel of the post-romantic, undoubtely composed by one of the best composers for brass instruments. Now in a version for Tenor Horn and Brass Band.
Gazella NEW! Andrea Hobson
This new compostion composed by the upcoming South-African composer is a rhythmic and upbeat piece with the use of extended techniques.
String and Harpsichord ensemble
Flute Concerto in G major G.B. Pergolesi, tr. Anabel Voigt
Nightsong NEW! Frank Zabel
Maybe even the first piece written for Tenor Horn and string quintet. The piece represents the Tenor Horn in a modern light and a contrasting atmosphere.
Piano
Neue Liebe, Neues Leben Fanny Hensel, tr. Anabel Voigt
As one of the few famous women composers, Fanny Hensel (b. Mendelssohn) truly captures the romantic character in this scoring of the German poem by Wolfgang Goethe.
Three dances NEW! Maho Kato
These three pieces depict the combination of the Japanese and European style. The journey starts with a Waltz and ends in a fast Taranetella.
Solo/Unaccompanied
Syrinx C. Debussy, tr. Anabel Voigt
The story behind this piece is one of longing and lost love. Debussy masterfully included these emotions based on the Greek mythology of the nymphe Syrinx.
Fantasie Nr.1 G.P. Telemann
Orginally for traverse flute this piece is the first of a series of 12 Fantasias. It challenges the player to precision and clarity as well as expressiveness.
